General Motors India April 2008 sales up by 24 per cent in a sluggish market - Chevrolet Spark sales grow by 66 percent

Press Release Body: New Delhi: The effervescent Chevrolet Spark has proven to be a favourite with the Indian car buyers in April 2008, logging a commendable sales growth of 66 per cent over the corresponding period last year. At a time when the car market has turned sluggish due to high lending rates, volatility in the stock market and rising inflation rate, General Motors India has registered a sales growth of 24.3 percent in April 2008, compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 5,563 units in April 2008 against 4,474 units during the same time last year. Sales of the Chevrolet Tavera grew by 12 percent and the Optra by 24 percent over the corresponding period last year. General Motors India's April 2008 sales comprise of 1,963 units of the Chevrolet Spark, 1,863 units of the Chevrolet Tavera, 1,055 units of the Chevrolet Aveo, 393 units of the Chevrolet Optra, and 289 units of the Chevrolet Captiva.

GM India's network expansion drive for service centres is going full steam and 117 locations across India have now been covered with state-of-the-art, customer-friendly, quick-response service points. By the end of this year, GM India intends reach out even better to its valued customers with a total of 125 sales points and 135 service outlets in place across the country. General Motors India is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation, with a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat. The company makes the Chevrolet Tavera, Chevrolet Optra, Chevrolet Aveo, Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, Chevrolet Optra SRV and Chevrolet Captiva for the Indian market.
